Overview
The Zoo Knoxville website redesign was a project focused on creating a user-friendly, mobile-first platform that enhances the visitor experience while showcasing the zoo’s mission. Built on WordPress, the site was designed to simplify ticket and membership purchases using the Tessitura gateway system, provide trip-planning tools, and include features like an interactive map with real-time location tracking and search filters. The redesign also emphasized mission-driven messaging by highlighting conservation efforts and making it easy for visitors to support the zoo through donations and animal adoptions. My role in this project was to build the first pass at the wireframes and think through the interactive map. You can see it live at zooknoxville.org.
The site’s structure and design were informed by feedback from a detailed discovery phase, resulting in a clean, maintainable, and accessible website optimized for all devices. Additional features include templates for events, FAQs, and donations. With scalability in mind, the website was built to support future expansions, including the integration of a new reporting platform in 2024. Overall, the redesign not only improved the visitor experience but also strengthened Zoo Knoxville’s ability to engage with its community and drive support for its mission: to protect wildlife and educate the public.
