Overview
The McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee, partnered with Designsensory to refresh its website with a mobile-first approach, improving SEO performance and user engagement. With major development changes ahead, the airport prioritized updating high-traffic pages, including the homepage, arrivals and departures, and an interactive airport and parking map. The redesign also optimized technical SEO factors, enhanced data tracking with Google Analytics 4, and implemented a user-friendly CMS (WordPress) for seamless updates. One key challenge in redesigning FlyKnoxville.com was working with an outdated brand guide, which required creative flexibility while maintaining consistency. The client was open to any changes except for one requirement: rounded design elements. My goals for the redesign were to create a clean, uncluttered layout that prioritized simplicity and information and leverage beautiful photography assets to engage users. Additionally, I aimed to future-proof the site, ensuring it remained adaptable to upcoming developments and evolving user needs.
The typography was chosen to enhance the feeling of modernity and simplicity while complementing rounded elements. The color palette had to be shifted from the original palette to be ADA-compliant and achieve the above goals.
